Phoenix Suns

Tonight, the Phoenix Suns will be changing up their jerseys a bit. The basketball team decided to wear "Los Suns" jerseys this Cinco de Mayo evening for their game against the spurs to protest against Arizona's new illegal immigration law. The team completely disagrees with the new law, which enables law enforcement to ask Latinos if they are legal or not. Phoenix Suns' managing partner Robert Sarver stated "Our players and organization felt that wearing our 'Los Suns' jerseys on Cinco de Mayo was a way for our team and our organization to honor our Latino community and the diversity of our league, the State of Arizona, and our nation".
I think it is so refreshing and awesome to see a sports team stick up for something that is going on in our nation. I agree with the Suns in the fact that the new law is unconstitutional and it should be abolished. Maybe this will show the government that the law is a violation of human rights. It is not unlike the laws of Nazi Germany. I think the Suns are doing the right thing by protesting with their jerseys because it could possibly inspire others to protest too.

  1. I agree with Talyor. I am glad the team is willing to step up against a political issue in a business like the NBA. This exposure for support against the law will make many more people rethink the law. It is a law that to me seems unconstitutional. As Taylor said, the Nazis used similar policies, and those laws led to hundreds of thousands being arrested and killed. I obviously don't believe there will be a massive killing of latinos in Arizona because of this law, but the discrimination could lead to other major problems.

  2. I disagree with both of you. I actually like the new law because it will send alot of illegal immagrants back to Mexico. Who cares if it's racial profiling if these illegal immagrants are coming to our country and costing us millions of dollars. Let's be honest, all illegal immagrants who come to the U.S. just waste our healthcare or join gangs that sell drugs or hurt people because thats all you can do when you don't have legal citizenship papers. So I disagree with the Suns for protesting against this new law. I think it was just a publicity stunt for the Suns to look like they care about Mexicans.
