M.I.A.

Early this week, British singer/rapper M.I.A., best known for her single "Paper Planes", had her latest video pulled from YouTube due to graphic violence and images of several redheads being executed. The violent video sent YouTube users into a frenzy, which ended with the video being flagged as inappropriate by the online video community. In some instances, the video just has an "18 years and over" rating, where users are asked to verify their age.
I think that the video is just a way of M.I.A. expressing herself. I think that it is art and even though it's very violent, it shouldn't be completely pulled from YouTube. I believe every celebrity deserves their own publicity. However, I don't think that little kids should be watching videos like these, because in the past they have proved to inspire kids to create their own violence. I think the video should just keep the 18 and older rating so that M.I.A. can be an artist and express herself and kids cannot see what they shouldnt be seeing.

  1. I agree with Taylor that the video should not be completely pulled. If a video shows anyone being executed, it is obviously not appropriate for anyone under the age of 18. The more mature people should have an opportunity to see the video if they would like to however. I also feel that M.I.A. should reconsider the making of her videos. If she has videos showing people being executed, she should expect that it would most likely offend and frighten many people.

  2. I agree with both of you. It's just a video, it's not like all those people are really being executed. I also agree that it should not be viewed by people under 18 because kids can be very impressionable. Also i feel that M.I.A. should consider making her videos less violent so people can watch them on youtube or on t.v.
